How To Choose A Refrigerant When Purchasing A Chiller?

Have you ever considered how to choose a refrigerant when purchasing a chiller? It's important to understand the differences between refrigerants so you can make the best decision for your system.

All developed countries require environmentally friendly refrigerants, such as R404A, R410A, R407C, etc. R11(known as Freon) is basically outlawed all over the world because of its destructive power on ozone. R22(Freon), which also contributes to ozone depletion, can only be used in some countries and gradually outlawed(according to Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer).

Among the environmentally friendly refrigerants, R410A is chosen in many countries for its high effect in absorbing and releasing heat so the compressor can run cooler, meaning energy saving. R410A is a high-pressure refrigerant and composed of R32 and R125. The compressor with R410A is specially designed to withstand high pressure. This system should use synthetic oil, which helps operate more efficiently and reduce wear and tear on the compressor.

So there is a big problem for R22 users. What should we do with the old equipment when R22 is gradually outlawed? Well, the simplest approach is to replace R22 with R417A, which is very similar to R22 but environmentally friendly. You don't have to change the system, but you need to pay attention to oil vapor value while replacing the refrigerant.

All refrigerants should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated place and away from the ignition, heat source, and direct sunlight.
